Inspired by the effects of colour upon mental health, this visual art installation will communicate the artists experiences with mental health through the mediums of light, film, and sound. Using the noun Harmonoia (a term coined by John Koenig) which means ‘an itchy sense of dread when life feels just a hint too peaceful’ as the foundation of the project, we have built upon this to create a piece that questions our own perceptions of the world around us.
We identified a problem with the lack of visual communication being used to address mental health within Bristol. We felt that this was a problem area that we could explore for the installation piece. As the artist for the piece I created a short film and corresponding artwork (which can be seen below) that supported the message of the piece.
Their was a lot of 'learning-on-the-job' throughout this project, which varied from building a network of artists to learning how to use Adobe applications such as Premiere Pro and Photoshop. I learnt throughout the process that it was important to ensure that the vision of the installation was constantly understood and that it was always a base point for us to grow from.
We have been supported throughout this project by Natalie from Blossom Co and Martin Campbell, Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, University of Bristol. We would like to thank them for all their help in making this installation piece possible.
If you wish to contact me for the report on the piece, please feel free to.
